The Sound of Music opens Friday at Diamond Head Theatre and runs through Aug. 1, directed and choreographed by Greg Zane.
It tells the endearing story of Maria, (Sarah Halford) and the difficulty she has obeying convent rules. Her daydreams leave her wanting to see more of the outside world. Mother Abbess (Trissa DiBenedetto Walter) convinces her to serve as governess for the seven children of Captain von Trapp (Buz Tennent). Maria quickly wins over the mischievous bunch with her music, games and affection. They are Liesl (Nicole Chaffin), Friedrich (Chase Bridgman), Louis (Malia Lane), Kurt (Ari Dalbert), Brigitta (Chelsea Lynne Michel), Marta (Kira Stone) and Gretl (Riley Newton).
Shows are at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday. Additional performances are 3 p.m. July 17, 24 and 31; 7:30 p.m. July 29 and 30; and 4 p.m. Aug. 1.
Tickets cost $12-$42, with discounts for children under 18, students, senior citizens and active military.
