Sacred Hearts Academy and Kalani High School robotics teams took home honors from the recent 2010 BAE Systems FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology Robotics) in Hawaii Regional Robotics Competition at UH-Manoa.

In the final rounds of competition, six teams - competing in alliances of three - went head-to-head in an intense robotics soccer game. The blue team alliance, consisting of Sacred Hearts, Punahou and Honokaa High, finished in second place.

Sacred Hearts also won the Industrial Safety Award and the Entrepreneurship Award, and the all-girls team qualified to attend the national championships in Atlanta in April, based on last year’s performance. SHA student Caitlin Mori won the FIRST Dean’s List Finalist Award.

The Kalani team earned the Regional Chairman’s Award, honoring the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST, which qualified them to advance to the championships as well.
