Sewer Work Affects East Traffic

Del.icio.usWork is under way on the Kalanianaole Highway sewer improvement project from Niu Valley to Wailupe Beach Park and along the Kahala Beach coastline.
The $9.2 million project, which began May 11, affects traffic along “sewer line B,” where lanes are closed Mondays at 8 p.m. eastbound and at 6 p.m. Mondays and 7 p.m. Fridays westbound. Completion is expected by April 2011.
“We’re fulfilling our promise to repair our long-neglected sewer system and waste-water treatment plants with these major capital investments,” Mayor Hannemann said. “These projects are constructed with the money that is collected in sewer fees. We will continue to devote our resources to improving our overall island infrastructure with projects like this.”
The Kalanianaole project will rehabilitate approximately 7,400 feet of 24-and 30-inch pipe with cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining; improve about 1,700 feet of 8-inch and 10-inch diameter pipe with CIPP lining; revitalize 19 manholes with epoxy liners; modify the entrance and exit manholes and install a new liner in the Wailupe Stream inverted siphon to improve the flushing action for cleaning; replace 29 sewer manhole cones/frames and covers; and clean 11,800 feet of 24, 30- and 36-inch pipe.
