Kahala dentist Randal Motooka will join his colleague Wilfred Miyasaki and staff for a “Dentists with a Heart” service Feb. 13 at the Downtown Dental Group clinic on Bethel Street (533-0000). They will perform free cleaning, X-rays, fillings, extractions, diagnoses and consultations on a first-come, first-served basis to patients age 12 and older that day.

“Dentists are dedicated, compassionate, caring professionals who work hard to proved an excellent service for their patients,” says Miyasaki. “It would be great for our profession and for needy people nationwide if this event caught on” ... Bryan Avery of Hawaii Kai is promoting something entirely different. It’s Gifts for Life, which offers free cremations to those who donate their bodies to medical research (395-1601)

There’s a goodwill trip to China in the future of both of these young ladies ... Kaiser High freshman Mayumi Fernandez won the Hawaii Youth Symphony essay contest - again. This is no surprise, since Mayumi involves herself in all things musical with the HYS, as well as stage musicals, hula, and singing the National Anthem and Hawaii Pono’i at UH games at Stan Sheriff Center
