Enter the scrumpdidilyumptous world of Roald Dahl as the Aiea Intermediate School Drama Club presents Willy Wonka, Jr. at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the school cafeteria.

Just as the eccentric Candy Man opened the doors to his chocolate factory to children from all over the world, the club has extended participation in this third annual spring musical to students from fellow area schools Alvah Scott, Nimitz, Kapunahala elementary schools; Moanalua Middle School; Aiea High School and Kamehameha Schools.

Just to sweeten the deal, entry to the performance is free.

“By offering admission to our production free of charge, we can do our part to promote the performing arts in our communities and increase an appreciation and support of the arts in public schools,” said drama club director Julia Lopresti.“Please come early and support AIS Drama Club by participating in the silent auction and enjoying dinner at our delicious concession stand.”

“It’s the biggest production yet,” added AIS art teacher Roy Chang, “including ‘flying’ machines, fog and bubble-makers, giant puppets and rear projections. And it’s free admission to the public, which is a great deal for family-friendly entertainment in these tough economic times.”
