Have A Cool, Kama‘aina Kids Summer

Del.icio.usAdding to its winter and spring activities, Kama’aina Kids introduces its first summer programs at Iroquois Point Island Club in Ewa Beach. The session runs from June 12 to July 27.
“We’re really excited because we have a waterfront area and a small fleet of boats for kayaking and surfing in the lagoon,“said Ray Sanborn, the organization’s CEO.
Swimming lessons will be offered at Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park, and Sanborn said there is the possibility of a partnership with a canoe club as well.
“When you are in an island state surrounded by water, swimming lessons are a No. 1 priority to us,” said Sanborn. “It will provide the basis for a lifetime of learning for other ocean sports like kayaking and sailing. This is something the children can enjoy forever, and they can even encourage their parents too.”
Sanborn noted that with two locations for watersports - the Westside facilities and Camp Kokokahi on the Windward side - they are doubling the number of children their program serves.
“We’re calling it the big, bigger, best summer program,” he added.
Kama’aina Kids programs are available in West Oahu at Kaleiopuu Elementary in Waipahu and Waimalu Elementary School in Aiea. The deadline for registration is May 25. For more information, call 262-4538.
