Women from the Waipahu Lowe’s Home Improvement store, a local sorority and the community strapped on their tool belts and holstered their hammers May 10 to help Habitat Hawaii put together a Waimanalo home for National Women Build Week.

“It actually went very well,” said Christene Ho, fund development officer for Habitat for Humanity Hawaii. “It’s the first time we’ve participated in this women’s build program, and it’s just a great opportunity to strengthen our relationship with Lowe’s.”

Sponsored by Lowe’s, the event is meant to celebrate the compassion, dedication, talents and abilities of women through construction. In addition, the home improvement store donated a $5,000 grant to Habitat for Humanity to support the portion of the build.

“We’re hoping that we can keep doing this year after year,” said Ho.

The home belongs to the Gallarde family and should be completed by the end of July.
