Oahu Dines Encourages Full Plates

Del.icio.usOahu Dines is a fundraiser that only requires one thing - eating.
Wally Ho’s Garage & Grill (98-380 Kamehameha Hwy.) and Hapa Grill (91590 Farrington Hwy.) are among 20 eateries across the island that will donate a portion of the proceeds of meals eaten on Feb. 27 to the Life Foundation, an organization dedicated to fighting AIDS.
“Oahu Dines is a great way to raise money for AIDS,” said Melanie Moore, director of communications for the Life Foundation. “The community really comes out to support it. It’s a fun and easy way for people to get involved.”
Last year, $15,000 was raised, and this year’s goal is $20,000.
“For the first time, we are also having an online auction,” added Moore, noting that gift certificates and other items are now up for bid at the Oahu Dines website.
The Life Foundation is also encouraging people to have a Dine In party at their home anytime in February. Dine In invitations have already been designed and can be personalized for the host. Hosts go online and put what text they would like on the invite, proof it and allow five working days for the invitations to be mailed. Organizers receive red AIDS awareness ribbons for holding a private party as well as a host packet with preparation tips. The Dine In party that raises the most funds gets a $100 certificate from an Oahu Dines restaurant. Dine In party hosts can arrange to have food for the party catered by any of the Oahu Dines restaurants.
In addition to the West Oahu restaurants, participants include Baci Bistro, Boots and Kimo’s, Cinnamon’s Restaurant, Brasserie Du Vin, Chai’s Island Bistro, Le Guignol, Soul de Cuba Cafe, 12th Avenue Grill, India Cafe, A Taste of New York, JJ Bistro and French Pastry, Dee Thai Restaurant, Diamond Head Market and Grill, The Wedding Cafe, Los Chaparros Mexican Restaurant,Spices,Ben and Jerry’s Ward, and Big City Diner Ward.

The Life Foundation was established in Hawaii in 1983 as a way to stop the spread of HIV and AIDS and to empower those affected. Since then,the foundation has assisted more than 600 HIV-positive people with medical,financial and emotional support.
