Waipahu Park Has It All This Weekend

Del.icio.usCommunity volunteers and city staff have put together an impressive lineup of entertainment and food to go with Hawaii Winter Baseball’s grand season opening this weekend in Waipahu.
With the motto “Catch the Dream Waipahu,” the 2007 Sunset at the Ball Park celebration will run from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Hans L’Orange Field, the town’s historic baseball field which is also hosting two pro games each day at noon and at 6 p.m. (Game tickets are $3 to $6 at the gate, or online at www.hawaiiwinterbaseball.com)
Sunset at the Ball Park is free to the public, offering a marketplace of products and information from local businesses, entertainment by the Royal Hawaiian Band, Simplicity, John McCoy Project and Na O Liana O Ke Anuenue.
Families will have their pick of food from Leeward Drive Inn, Mom’s, La Familia and Hukilau restaurants. Organizations with additional food booths are Waipahu Little League, Na Pa’ani Softball League, Aloha Shoyu, Uncle Lani’s Poi Mochi and Undagi Man.
For the kids, there are Heather’s Inflatables, Hawaii’s largest mobile climbing rock wall, Bungee Trampoline, a Wild One inflatable obstacle course, Wave of Fire slide, Pineapple Tub Ride, Hawaiian Water Spout ride and much more. (Wristbands may be purchased for $13 and are good from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.)
The HWB games also allow time for fun antics on the field and autograph sessions with the league’s talented young players.
On Saturday, it’s the North Shore Honu vs. West Oahu Canefires at noon, and Honolulu Sharks vs. Waikiki Beach Boys at 6 p.m. On Sunday they repeat with Honu vs. Canefires at noon, and Sharks vs. Beachboys at 6 p.m.
There is no shuttle to the ball park, but additional parking is available at August Ahrens Elementary School, Koaki Street and the Waipahu Civic Center.
