West Oahu Offers Aloha For Festivals

Del.icio.usAloha Festivals celebrates Hawaiian culture with two events this month in the West Oahu area: Kapolei Mele is set for 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Kapolei Regional Park, and a Keiki Hoolaulea is booked for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 22 at Pearlridge Center.
Kapolei Mele will feature five stages of entertainment and food. The city’s stage will have KRTR radio showcasing the talents of Brother Noland, as well as hula from kumu hula Taunja Paishon and Na Ohana Ke Anuenue. Other highlights are music by Keale, nephew of the late Moe Keale, and storytelling by Kealoha Kelekolio of Bishop Museum.
The Bank of Hawaii/KINE stage will have Melveen Leed, Mighty J, Kamau and Maunalua. Frank DeLima and B.E.T. grace the Kapolei Development Corp./KCCN stage, while Kimo Alama Keaulana, Del Beazley and Sonny Ching’s Halau Na Mamo Pu’uanahulu take the spotlight on the Hawaiian Airlines/KINE stage.
The Waste Management/Mark Development stage will present the Tops in Blue from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Tops in Blue is a show that features 35 carefully selected U.S. Air Force active-duty personnel singing and dancing. They have entertained in more than 30 countries and also do their own lighting and staging.
The Pearlridge Keiki Hoolaulea offers hands-on activities and games and entertainment by Chris da Clown, Ronald McDonald, Stevo the Clown, Halau Hula Olana, and the winner of the 2006 Aloha Festivals Ukulele Contest, T.J. Mayeshiro. Those wearing their Aloha Festivals ribbon can obtain discounts from participating stores. Ribbons will also be on sale at the Aloha Festivals information tables both Uptown and Downtown.
