* HOME OWNERSHIP Habitat for Humanity Leeward conducts an application orientation at 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ewa Beach. All families interested in the agency’s self-help process to home ownership are welcome. Call 696-7882.

* KUNIA ZONING The city Department of Planning and Permitting hears a request for a zoning variance at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 16 on the Hawaii Agriculture Research Center’s plan to retain the homes at Kunia Plantation Village and allow other uses and structures. This step is part of a city-private partnership to keep housing for former plantation workers. The hearing is in the City Council committee meeting room, Honolulu Hale 205. Call 768-8022.

* WAIPIO COSTUMES Waipio Center hosts its 10th annual Halloween costume contest at 2 p.m. Oct. 25, with signups from 1:30 p.m. by Nancy’s Kitchen. All participants get goodie bags, and the Sabrina Starr Dancers will entertain at the free event. Call 722-8487.
