Below are highlights of what’s coming up in the West Oahu community.

* The Kunia box car track will be open during the Oct. 4-6 school holiday from noon to 6 p.m. Cost is $6 per rider. Call 947-3393.

* HMSA offers a community flu shot clinic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Ewa Beach Longs Drugs, Oct. 12 at the Pearl City Don Quijote (Daiei), Oct. 21 at Leeward Community College, and 8:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 24 at Kapolei Theatres. Nonmembers’ fee is $35. Call 948-6826.

* The “Ukulele Man” sculpture, made of recycled materials, is on view weekdays through Oct. 6 in the Kapolei Hale courtyard (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Call 523-4674.


* HECO presents “Live Energy Lite” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 7 at Pearlridge Uptown center court featuring music, games, prizes and exhibits on wise energy use. Also at Pearlridge that day: Pineapple Squeeze plays classic Hawaiian music from 6 to 8 p.m. Call 488-0981.

* The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts a donor drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 7 at Leeward Community College. Call 845-9966.

* Hawaii’s Plantation Village presents a “Relive the Plantation Days” Keiki Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 7 in Waipahu. Call 677-0110.

* Waipahu Library offers free storytime, songs and activities at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays for keiki ages 3 to 5 on Oct. 10, 17, 24 and 31. Parents must accompany children. Call 675-0358.

* Times Royal Kunia marks its 12th anniversary from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 7 with keiki activities, a wine talk and samplings, cookie decorating and a seafood road-show, as well as other promotions inside the supermarket and at Wendy’s.

* A Teachers Institute Day is scheduled for Oct. 9 at all Oahu public schools. There will be no classes, but teachers will have a work day.

* St. Francis-West and Liliha will provide free mammograms and follow-up exams to uninsured and underinsured women ages 40-49 during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Call 547-6889 or 547-6798.


* The Aiea Neighborhood Board meets at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at Aiea Library; the Ewa board meets at 7 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Ewa Beach Library. Call 527-5749.

* Student artwork from Island Pacific Academy, Waiau Elementary and five other schools honored for their art programs are on view Oct. 10-21 at The ARTS at Mark’s Garage in downtown Honolulu. Exhibit title is Underage Thinking VI. Call 521-2903.

* Nickelodeon’s Nick Live show is coming to Pearlridge Uptown Center Court Oct. 14. Children and their families will have a chance to face a series of stunts and challenges that culminate in one keiki being doused with Nickelodeon’s signature green slime. The 45 minute shows begin at noon and 2 p.m. Call 488-0981.

* Area lawmakers hold a meeting on “Mass Transit and Transportation Plans” at 7 p.m. Oct. 17 in the Waipahu Intermediate School cafeteria. Experts will share the latest transit proposals and construction projects for the Waipahu area. Call Rep. Jon Riki Karamatsu at 586-8490.

* The state Board of Education holds its monthly general business meeting Oct 19 at Pearl City High School. The afternoon session begins at 3:30 p.m. The board will reconvene at about 7 p.m. to hear public concerns. Call 586-3332.

* The black-and-white photo exhibit My Voice from Waianae’s Women in Need participants is on display weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. now through Oct. 25, at Kapolei Hale. Call 523-4674.

* Peter Rockford Espiritu’s Tau Dance Theatre presents its opera, Naupaka - A Hawaiian Love Story, at 8 p.m. Oct. 7 at Leeward Community College Theatre. Tickets are $25 and $21. Call 455-0385.
