Below are highlights of what’s coming up in West Oahu.

* Bank of Hawaii hosts a free Reverse Mortgage seminar at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at Aiea Library, 99-143 Moanalua Road. Call 693-1425.

* Kapolei Library offers College Admission Strategies 101: Demystifying College Admissions, a discussion at 7 p.m. Nov. 8, directed toward students ages 12-18 (and their parents) who are planning to attend college. Call 693-7050.


* Deadly Lies by Pearl Ridge Elementary students, Kapolei High School’s graffiti documentary, and Hippies Taking a Stand Against Society by Aiea Intermediate all air this month on the Hawaii Student Digital Showcase at 5 p.m. Tuesdays, 4 p.m. Thursdays and 9 a.m. Saturdays on ‘Olelo Channel 56.

* Hawaii Rush Soccer Club (for West and Central Oahu) is accepting registration for a two-month winter season beginning Nov. 8 and meeting from 5 to 6:15 p.m. on Wednesdays at 16 Acres Park in Mililani. Call 440-4611.

* Kapolei Hale offers two free exhibits to the public, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first is an Arbor Day poster contest by sixth-graders that follows the theme “Trees are Terrific ... in All Shapes and Sizes” (final showing Nov. 8). The second display is the 13th annual Leeward Young Artists Awards exhibit Nov. 9-16 at Kapolei Hale. Call 523-4674.

* Ewa Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 at Ewa Beach Library; the Aiea board meets at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at Aiea Library. Call 527-5749.

* Four West Oahu high school bands play in the annual Rainbow Invitational Marching Band Festival at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at Aloha Stadium. Admission is $7 and $5. Call 957-7657.

* The U.S. Small Business Administration holds free consultations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 9 and Dec. 14 at Oahu Worklinks in Waipahu at 94-275 Mokuola St. #302. Call 541-2983.

* Leeward Community College presents Arabian Nights at 8 p.m. Nov. 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18, and 4 p.m. Nov. 12. Call 455-0385.

* Public libraries are closed Nov. 10-12 for Veterans Day weekend.

* Family and Community Education presents free demonstrations of Christmas ideas at 10 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Urban Garden Center in Pearl City. Call 247-0421.


* Pearlridge Center presents musical “Classics” from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturdays. Bill “Hawaiian Elvis” Burgher and Frame of Mind, the Band are booked for Nov. 11 in Downtown’s center court. Call 349-8221.

* Lance Tominaga, author of Catch the Dream: The Story of Hawaii Winter Baseball, makes a book-signing appearance, along with the Hawaii Winter Baseball mascots, at Borders in Waikele from 2 to 3 p.m. Nov. 11.

* Hawaii Blood Bank conducts a donor drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 12 at Calvary Chapel in Aiea. Call 845-9966.

* Kapolei Hale hosts the 14th annual Hawaii International Jazz Festival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 12 - for free - featuring numerous professional bands and musicians, food booths and an art show. Call 941-9974.

* The Mokichi Okada Association Hawaii Health Activities offers free lessons in the practice of jorei, flower arranging and the Japanese tea ceremony from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Nov. 13 and 27 at Pearlridge Center Uptown (second level, fronting Crazy Shirts). Call 488-0981.

* Waipahu Library (94-275 Mokuola St.) offers free storytime, songs and activities at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays beginning Nov. 14 for keiki ages 3 to 5. Parents must accompany children. Call 675-0358.

* Local talents Nyla Fujii-Babb and Yukie Shiroma perform three of award-winning author Gerald McDermott’s stories at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at Kapolei Library ( 693-7050) and 3 p.m. Nov. 20 at Ewa Beach Library (689-1204). McDermott himself will host the program, titled McDermott in Motion.

* The Royal Hawaiian Band plays at noon Nov. 15 in the Kapolei Hale courtyard. Call 922-5331.

* National Adoption Awareness Month is being celebrated with the first-ever Heart Gallery Hawaii in which photos of some of the Oahu’s 2,500 foster children waiting for adoptive families will be displayed from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 18 at Pearlridge Center Uptown (first level near American Savings). Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona and Mayor Mufi Hannemann will attend and encourage families in our community to consider adoption. Call 488-0981.

* Kapolei Library holds a holiday greeting-card workshop at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 18 for ages 12 to adult. Registration is required at 693-7050.

* Leeward Community College presents LCC Guitars, a guitar concert directed by Peter Kun Frary, with works by Albeniz, Joplin, Machado, Telemann, Mozart and others for classical guitar orchestra, small ensemble and solo at 4 p.m. Nov. 19. Admission is $5. Call 455-0385.

* Pali Momi offers free blood pressure and blood sugar level testing from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Nov. 20 at Pearlridge Center Uptown. Call 488-0981.

* Leeward Community College holds a holiday choral concert in which local elementary and high school choruses join LCC’s Kanikapila Singers and Chorus Program to sing traditional and contemporary Christmas songs at 4 p.m. Nov. 26. Tickets are $5. Call 455-0385.

* Kapolei Library (1020 Manawai St.) offers a series of free storytime programs now through Dec. 16. Toddler storytime (ages 2-3) is 10 a.m. Mondays, and pre-school storytime is 10 a.m. Thursdays and Saturdays. Call 693-7050.
