Below are highlights of what’s coming up in West Oahu.

* AIEA DANCE The Aiea Chapter of the Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association registers students for its fourth quarter American Social Dances in bolero, West Coast swing and tango at 7 p.m. Jan. 18 and 25 at Gus Webling Elementary School cafeteria (99-370 Paihi St.). * PEARL CITY DANCE The Pearl City Chapter of the Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association accepts students for classes in tango, mambo and waltz at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 at Manana Elementary School cafeteria. Classes will be held between 7 and 9:10 p.m. Tuesdays Jan. 12-March 2. Call Shirley at 456-2129.

* BALLROOM DANCE The Pearlridge Chapter of the Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association registers students for its fourth-quarter classes in tango, mambo and waltz at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 and 26 in Waimalu Elementary School cafeteria. * OKINAWANS’ HEARING The city Planning Commission hears a zone change request at 1:30 pm. Jan. 20 on Hawaii United Okinawa Association’s plan to build a three-story commercial building and two-story parking garage on Ka Uka Boulevard. The hearing is at 530 S. King St. Call 768-8006.

* HABITAT CLASS Honolulu Habitat for Humanity conducts an informational meeting and self-help home building by qualified low-income families at 6:45 p.m. Jan. 20 at Aiea Library. Call 538-7070.

* PLAY MORNINGS Keiki age 2 and older are welcome from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Jan. 21 and 28 to the children’s section of Kapolei Library for free Play Mornings. Call 693-7050.

* CATHOLIC MUSIC West Oahu schools mark Catholic Schools Week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 23 with performances of song and dance at Pearlridge Center Uptown. Call 488-0981.

* TRYOUTS Auditions are set for 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 22 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 23 at Waiau Elementary School for the late Lisa Matsumoto’s The Princess and the Iso Peanut, which will be staged in April at Hawaii Theatre. Call Ohia Productions at 943-0456.

* DANCE CONCERT The New York City-based In Mixed Company presents a vibrant, vigorous dance concert (with mature themes) at 8 p.m. Jan. 23 at Leeward Community College Theatre. * PAPERCRAFT WORKSHOP Kapolei Library hosts a free adult papercraft workshop at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 23, with local crafter Arnheidur demonstrating how to create cards for Valentine’s Day and other occasions. Program includes all necessary supplies. Registration is required. Call 693-7050.

* SCHOLARSHIP FAIR Leeward Community College hosts its second annual Scholarship Fair from 3 to 7 p.m. Jan. 27 in the library to help students get the resources to pay for college. Scholarship funders will attend, answer questions and assist with completing the FAFSA. Call 455-0606.

* HAIKU CONTEST Deadline is Jan. 30 to enter Kapolei Library’s Tofu Haiku Contest for ages 7 to 17, sponsored by Aloha Tofu, with plenty of prizes to be awarded at a special program Feb. 27. Call 693-7050.

* PLANTS, PEOPLE Friends of Halawa Xeriscape Garden has a general membership meeting and nomination of directors at 10 a.m. Jan. 30, followed by a members’ plant sale at 99-1268 Iwaena St. Call 748-5312.

Donations are accepted at the door, with two raffle tickets given for donations over $5.
