Below are highlights of what’s coming up in West Oahu.

* Waipahu Library (94-275 Mokuola St.) offers free storytime, songs and activities at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays beginning Nov. 14 for keiki ages 3 to 5. Parents must accompany children. Call 675-0358.

* The Royal Hawaiian Band plays at noon Nov. 15 in the Kapolei Hale courtyard. Call 922-5331.

* Kapolei Hale hosts an exhibit weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring artwork from the 13th annual Leeward Young Artists Awards program through Nov. 17. The artwork is by students from 12 Leeward public schools. Call 523-4674.


* Leeward Community College presents Arabian Nights at 8 p.m. Nov. 16, 17 and 18. Call 455-0385.

* The City Council’s Transportation and Planning Committee holds a community out-reach meeting on the island’s proposed high-capacity transit system at 6:30 p.m. Nov 16 at Kapolei Hale and Nov. 21 in the Pearl Ridge Elementary School cafeteria. Call 547-7007.

* Heart Gallery celebrates National Adoption Awareness Month with a display of photos Nov. 18 of some of the island’s 2,500 foster children awaiting adoption. The exhibit runs from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Pearlridge Center Uptown (first level near American Savings). Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona and Mayor Mufi Hannemann will attend and encourage families to consider adoption. Call 488-0981.

* Kapolei Library holds a holiday greeting card workshop at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 18 for ages 12 to adult. Registration is required. Call 693-7050.

* Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Pearl City holds a fundraising “Fabulous Fair” from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 18 with crafts, country store, plants, silent auction and more. Call 455-3012.

* The Leeward Community College Guitar Ensemble, directed by Peter Kun Frary, performs a recital of works by Barrios, Machado, Purcell, Widmann and Sor at 4 p.m. Nov. 19 in the LCC Theater. Cost is $5 at the door. Call 455-0385.

* Pearl City High School has a craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 19 at the school. Call 453-6511.

* The Nature Conservancy leads a 3-mile, moderate hike from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 19 along the Kalua’a Loop Trail in the Honouliuli Preserve. Fee is $10. Call 587-6220.


* The Waianae Coast Coalition holds its 14th annual Community Health Summit beginning at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 20 at the Makaha Resort. Topics for discussion include affordable housing, economic development and homelessness. Call 696-1217.

* Local talents Nyla Fujii-Babb and Yukie Shiroma perform three of award-winning author Gerald McDermott’s stories at 3 p.m.

Nov. 20 at Ewa Beach Library (689-1204). McDermott himself will host the program, titled McDermott in Motion.

* Folk singer Joe Hickerson performs at 3 p.m. Nov. 20 at Pearl City Library in celebration of Children’s Book Week. The program is recommended for students in grade 3 through adult. Call 453-6566.

* Pali Momi conducts free blood pressure and blood sugar-level testing from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Nov. 20 at Pearlridge Center Uptown. Call 488-0981.

* Pearlridge Center presents musical “Classics” from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturdays, with Ike Pono booked for Nov. 25 in Downtown’s center court. Call 349-8221.

* The Hawaii United Okinawa Association’s annual Winter Craft Fair runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 25 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m Nov. 26 at the Hawaii Okinawa Center in Waipio Gentry, featuring 160 booths, plus food, entertainment and a silent auction. Call 676-5400.

* Leeward Community College’s holiday choral concert is at 4 p.m. Nov. 26, when local school choruses will join LCC’s Kanikapila Singers and Chorus Program in traditional and contemporary Christmas songs. Tickets are $5. Call 455-0385.

* The Hawaiian Trails & Mountain Club leads a 14-mile advanced hike to the Koolau summit from Pearl City at 8 a.m. Nov. 26. Call 674-1459. * The Mokichi Okada Association Hawaii Health Activities offers free lessons in the practice of jorei, flower arranging and the Japanese tea ceremony from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Nov. 27 at Pearlridge Center Uptown (second level, fronting Crazy Shirts). * The Pearl City Shopping Center Christmas Parade starts at 4 p.m. Dec. 3 at Momilani Elementary School and winds down to the shopping center. Call Iona at 593-1553.

* Kapolei Library (1020 Manawai St.) hosts a series of free storytimes now through Dec. 16. Toddler storytime (ages 2-3) is 10 a.m. Mondays, and preschool storytime is 10 a.m. Thursdays and Saturdays. Call 693-7050.

* Pearl City Library (1138 Waimano Home Rd.) offers pre-school storytimes Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. through Dec. 13. Puzzletimes are Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. through Dec. 14. Call 453-6566.

* Kapolei High School’s graffiti documentary, Deadly Lies by Pearl Ridge Elementary students, and Hippies Taking a Stand Against Society by Aiea Intermediate air this month on the Hawaii Student Digital Showcase at 5 p.m. Tuesdays, 4 p.m. Thursdays and 9 a.m. Saturday on ‘Olelo Channel 56.
