* JACK-O-LANTERNS Kapolei Commons sponsors a pumpkin-carving contest, and the public can vote on the best entries Oct. 28-30 at PriceBusters. Artists from Kapolei Middle School are vying for cash prizes in this “pumpkins with personality’ competition. Call 782-5180.

* E-WASTE DISPOSAL Leeward Community College accepts electronic waste - with preregistration - from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 28 and 29; the public can bring items from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 30. For details, go to hawaii.edu/ewaste.

* HIGHLANDS CRAFTS Pearl City Highlands Elementary School hosts a Harvest Festival Craft Fair from 9 a.m. 2 p.m. Oct. 30 at 1419 Waimano Home Road.

* FAMILY FESTIVAL Bethel Chapel Assembly of God has a Fall Family Fun Festival from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at August Ahrens Elementary School cafeteria with a “Big Top Circus Party” theme for costumes, along with a food eating contest, games, candy, a bouncer, entertainment and a prize reel. * MARKET TREATS Kapolei Marketplace hosts safe trick-or-treating from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 31 at participating stores, with free mini pumpkins from the pumpkin patch while supplies last (551-8930). At Kapolei Shopping Center, there’s mini pumpkin and treat bag decorating and, for a nominal fee, hair tinsel attachments and nail art (262-8556).

* KUNIA TREATS Kunia Shopping Center hosts trick-or-treating from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 31 at participating merchants.

* HALLOWEEN BASH Momilani Community Center hosts a free family Halloween event with carnival games, prizes, trick-or-treating and a costume contest from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at 715 Hoomoana St. Call 456-2073.

* BLOOD DRIVES Hawaii Blood Bank has donor drives from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at Foodland Ewa Town Center, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Pali Momi Medical Center, 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at Kapolei High School, 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 5 at Home Depot Pearl City, 8 to 11 a.m. Nov. 5 at the state Hale Kalanianaole Building In Kapolei, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 5 at Waipahu High School chorus room, and 7:45 a.m. to noon Nov. 6 at Pearlridge Center. * CLOSURES All public libraries and schools are closed Nov. 2, General Election Day.

* ARBOR DAY Hawaiian Electric Co. observes Arbor Day at 7 a.m. Nov. 6 at the Urban Garden Center with trees and shrubs to give away while supplies last, along with advice from experts. Call 543-4441.

* XERISCAPE Halawa Xeriscape Garden, closed in October, will reopen Nov. 6 to the public. Call 748-5041.

* HOMESTEAD MARKET Prince Kuhio Community Center presents an Open Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 6, welcoming up to 30 vendors, first come, first served. * SOCCER SIGNUPS The Pearl City AYSO has soccer signups from 12:30 to 3:30 pm. Nov. 7 and 14 at Waiau District Park rec center for all children born on or between Aug. 1, 1991 and July 31, 2006. Polyphabric Design Studio has sewing, construction, pattern-making and design classes for ages 8 and older from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday in Kapolei. Fee is $100 for eight sessions; one-hour classes are $200 for eight, supplies included. Call 520-2232.
