Below are highlights of what’s coming up in West Oahu.

* BOARD The MakakiloKapolei-Honokai Hale Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. March 28 in the Kapolei High School cafeteria. Call 527-5749.

* FOOD GUIDE Kaiser’s Waipio Clinic presents a free Senior Summit lecture at 10 a.m. March 28 on “New Food Guide Pyramid and Food Label Reading” at 94-1480 Moaniani St. (432-2235).The clinic also hosts a “Fresh Wednesday” produce market from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 28 (432-2270).

* WAIPAHU LIBRARY Waipahu Library (94-275 Mokuola St.) offers a free spring break program for keiki at 3 p.m. March 28, featuring a guide dog. Call 675-0358.


* LIBRARY SHOW Honolulu Theatre for Youth presents The Sense-Sational Show at 10:30 a.m. March 28 at Ewa Beach Library, designed especially for the preschool crowd. Call 689-1204.

* ROYAL BAND The Royal Hawaiian Band performs a free concert at Kapolei Hale at noon March 28. Call 523-4141.

* LILY FUNDRAISER A portion of the funds from Easter Lily plants purchased at Foodland and Sack ‘N Save stores between March 28 and April 10 will benefit Easter Seals Hawaii. Call 536-1015.

* STUDENT READING Kapolei Library (1020 Manawai St.) hosts a spring reading program through March 31 in which children grades 6 and younger can win prizes and awards through reading. Call 693-7050.

* SAMPLE SALE Hope Chapel Kapolei holds a Surf Sample Sale from 1 to 4 p.m. March 31 at Barbers Point Elementary School. Admission is $3, and proceeds will support two children’s shelters in Thailand and the local church’s AWANA Club. Call 387-2072.

* WHALES Whale counters are needed March 31 for Ewa Beach, Ko Olina and other Oahu shoreline locations. Call 397-2651, ext. 253.

* BLOOD The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 31 in the Kapolei Police Station lobby, and from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 2 at Leeward Community College. Call 845-9966.

* R.E.A.L. Families for R.E.A.L. begins its spring program of free parent-child activities on April 2 at Pearl City Highlands Elementary School. Call 453-6478.

* LUNCH The Pearl Restaurant is open for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 4 and 5 at Leeward Community College. Call 455-0475.


* ON STAGE Hema Paa performs at 1 p.m. April 1, followed by Halau Hula Mai Ka Puuwai a Ka Manao at 2:30 at Pearlridge Center Uptown. Call 488-0981.

* MAKUA Two studies regarding the Makua Military Reservation are available for public comment at the Pearl City, Waianae, Wahiawa and state libraries. Comments are due by April 3. Call 655-8729.

* BALLROOM DANCE The Pearlridge chapter of the Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association registers students April 3, 10 and 17 for classes in Nightclub 2-step, waltz and mambo in the Waimalu Elementary School cafeteria (98-825 Moanalua Road). * ART Winners of the 2006 Earth Month Photo and Video Contest are on view through April 5 at Kapolei Hale Courtyard.

* PLANTATION VILLAGE The Philippines celebration of Lent, or Pabasa, is planned from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. April 6 at Hawaii’s Plantation Village Social Hall. Call 230-0088. Also at the village, “Relive the Plantation Days” is holding a drum festival beginning at 10 a.m. April 7. Cost is $4 kamaaina and military, children under 12 are free. Call 677-0110.

* FOOTBALL The Pearl City Highlands Colts hold registration for football and cheerleading on Saturdays in April and May (except May 12). Signups are from 9 a.m. to noon at Manana Neighborhood Park (1550 Kuahaka St.) in Pearl City. Call 330-3676.

* ROTARY Kapolei Rotary Club presents “Evening at Lanikuhonua” from 6 to 9:30 p.m April 13 at Ko Olina Resort. Tickets are $40, covering food, beer, wine and live entertainment by H2O. Call 674-2500.

* TALK STORY State Sen. Mike Gabbard and state Rep. Sharon Har host a “talk story” in the Royal Kunia Community Association Board Room (above the Kunia Times Super Market) at 9 a.m. April 14. Gabbard also will host a talk story at the Kapolei Starbucks (outside seating, near the Chevron Station) at 9 a.m. April 28. Call 586-6830.


* BOOKS Borders Waikele hosts three monthly reading groups: Bestsellers at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday; Romance Readers Anonymous at 6:30 p.m. on the second Thursday; and International Women’s Writing Guild at 7 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday. Call 676-6699.

* WAIPAHU STORYTIME Waipahu Library (94-275 Mokuola St.) has free storytime and activities for keiki ages 3 to 5 at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays through April 17. Call 675-0358.

* PEARL CITY STORYTIME Pearl City Library (1138 Waimano Home Road) has free weekly storytime at 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays through May 24 for keiki 2 and older and Thursdays for toddlers. Call 453-6566.

* KAPOLEI STORYTIME Kapolei Library offers free weekly storytime for toddlers age 2 to 3 Mondays and for preschoolers Thursdays and Saturdays through April 28; both sessions begin at 10 a.m. Call 693-7050.
