* MENTAL HEALTH The state Health Department conducts a public hearing on mental health planning from 8:15 to 11:15 a.m. Aug. 8 at the Kamehameha Schools Community Learning Center in Nanakuli (89-101 Farrington Hwy.) Call 586-4113.

* NEIGHBORS The Ewa Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at Ewa Beach Library. Call 527-5749.

* BON DANCING Pearl City Hongwanji’s annual bon dance starts at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 10-11 at 858 Second St. (455-1680); Aiea Soto Zen Taiheiji has taiko drumming at 7 and bon dancing at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 10-11 at 99-045 Kahale St. (488-6794); and Aiea Hongwanji’s bon dance is at 7 p.m. Aug. 25 at 99-186 Puakala St. (488-5685).


* BLOOD DRIVES Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 11 at New Hope Leeward in Waipahu Town Center; and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 19 at Waikele Center (by Leonard’s Malassadas). Call 845-9966.

* BEAUTY SESSION Khatalina Johnson conducts “Beautiful and Blessed,” a talk on feeling beautiful inside and out, with tips on applying makeup, at 10 a.m. Aug. 11 at City of Refuge Christian Church (94-897 Waipahu St.). Childcare is available. Call 677-5677.
