Below are highlights of what’s coming up in West Oahu.

August

* BAND CONCERTS The Royal Hawaiian Band performs at noon Aug. 15 at Kapolei Hale courtyard; at 6:45 p.m. Aug. 18 at Kapolei Sunset on the Plains; and 2 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Momilani Community Center Family Fun Day, 715 Hoomoana St. Call 922-5331.

* BENEFIT PARTY The Suga Suga Rock Star Island party is at 7 p.m. Aug. 16 at Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park. Admission is $15, and proceeds benefit Musical Youth of Hawaii. Go to www.myspace.com/united-djs

* YOUTH SLAMM City of Refuge Christian Church hosts a Youth Slamm (Saving Lives and Moving Mountains) from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 18 at 94-897 Waipahu St. All youths 10 and older are invited to a program of singing, dancing, skits and dramatic readings on feelings, attitudes and challenges of teens today. * BENEFIT GALA A fundraiser for Waipahu’s Hale Kuhao housing project is set for 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 18 in Hawaii Prince Golf Club’s Bird of Paradise Restaurant. Tickets are $100. Call 497-2350.

* ON STAGE Mighty J plays contemporary Hawaiian music at 2 p.m. Aug. 18 at Pearlridge Uptown Center Court, and Polynesian dance group Tiare Apetahi performs at 2 p.m. Aug. 19. Call 488-0981.

* FLAG FOOTBALL The PAL Flag Football program seeks players age 7 to 12 as well as volunteer coaches for the upcoming season, which begins Aug. 18 in West Oahu communities. Call Officer Al Balasbas at 847-0177.

* BUSINESS NETWORKBusiness Network International, an organization specializing in word-of-mouth referrals and marketing, is opening a new chapter in Waikele and will conduct an informational meeting at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 21 at the Waikele Golf Club Restaurant. Call 672-0065.

* NEIGHBORS The MakakiloKapolei-Honokai Hale Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. Aug. 22 in the Kapolei High School cafeteria. The Waipahu board meets at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at Hawaii’s Plantation Village. Call 527-5749.

* GOLF TOURNEY The Honolulu chapter of Executive Women International conducts its 12th annual golf tournament Aug. 24 at Hawaii Prince Golf Club in Ewa Beach. Call 537-8853.

* VARONA CLEANUP Ewa Clean and Green Patrol meets from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 25 by the Varona Village train station on Renton Road to clean up the area and paint the bus stop. Call 393-9318.

* BON DANCING Aiea Hongwanji’s annual bon dance is at 7 p.m. Aug. 25 at 99-186 Puakala St. (488-5685).

* DANCE PARTY Music from the 1980s to current hits will play at the Sugar Hill dance party at Lily Koi Lounge from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sept. 2 for ages 21 and over. The $10 entrance donation benefits Musical Youth of Hawaii. Call 479-3008.

* OKINAWAN STUDIES Guest lecturer Koji Taira, a University of Illinois professor, presents “Okinawan Identity and Independence” at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 4 in UH-West Oahu room E-103. Call 454-4720.

* FREEWAY TALK State Rep. Rida Cabanilla hosts a community meeting at Asing Park (91-1450 Renton Road) at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6 to discuss using public-private partnerships to construct freeway lane miles. A presentation and slide show on the new Tampa tollway by Panos Prevedouros, a UH-Manoa professor of civil engineering, will follow. Call 586-6080.
