* THE DOG Duane “Dog” Chapman signs copies of his new autobiography at 7 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Waikele Borders. Call 676-6699.
* PEARL REOPENS The Pearl, LCC’s student-run restaurant, opens Aug. 30 for fall semester lunch service from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday through Nov. 30. (Enter on the diamondhead side of Campus Center.) For reservations, call 455-0475 or 455-0298.
* OKINAWA FEST The Hawaii Okinawa Center kicks off the annual Okinawan festival with a musical at 7 p.m Aug. 30 at the Waipio center (94-587 Ukee St.).
* BLOOD DRIVES Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 31 in the Kakuhihewa Building in Kapolei and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 1 at Pearlridge Center. Call 845-9966.

* KEIKI FESTIVAL Hawaii’s Plantation Village presents a keiki festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 1, with free admission to the park for entertainment, stories, ethnic food, plantation games and prizes. Call 677-0110.
* HOLIDAY CLOSURES Public schools and libraries are closed Sept. 1-3 for Labor Day weekend.
* ROYAL MUSIC The Royal Hawaiian Band performs a free concert at noon Sept. 1 at Pearlridge Center Uptown. Call 922-5331.
* MILITARY GOLF Ko Olina Golf Club will donate $1 of every round played on Sept. 1, the PGA and USGA Patriot Golf Day, to Wounded Warriors. The club also offers military personnel $20 off 18-hole green fees and $10 off 9-hole green fees throughout the month. Call 676-5300.
* DANCE PARTY Music from the 1980s to current hits will play at the Sugar Hill dance party at Lily Koi Lounge from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sept. 2 for ages 21 and over. The $10 entrance donation benefits Musical Youth of Hawaii. Call 479-3008.
* WAIAU HIKE The Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club leads a 12-mile advanced hike to Waiau Ridge at 8 a.m. Sept. 2. Go to www.htmclub.org

* WWII STORIES Aiea Library hosts “The Japanese Zero Pilot Who Terrorized the Secluded Island of Niihau: December 1941,” at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6. Patricia Beekman presents the story her late father, author Allan Beekman, detailed in his book The Niihau Incident about a Japanese Zero fighter pilot who crash-landed on Niihau. Call 483-7333.

* FREEWAY TALK State Rep. Rida Cabanilla hosts a community meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at Asing Park (91-1450 Renton Road) to discuss public-private partnerships for freeway-lane construction. * ART FOR PEACE Two-dimensional art work will be accepted through Sept. 7 for the “Expressions of Peace” display at the state Capitol, set for Sept. 21, Hawaii’s first Peace Day.
