Below are highlights of what’s happening in the West Oahu community in the next few weeks.
* The Hawaii Blood Bank holds area donor drives from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 26 at the Kapolei Bank of Hawaii; 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 30 at the Ewa Beach Shopping Center; 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Pearl City Home Depot; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Kapolei Big Kmart. * The SBA sponsors two programs in Kapolei on July 27: a free government contracting workshop at 9 a.m. and a “Business Loan Blitz” from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Both are at Kapolei Hale, 1000 Uluohia St. For workshop reservations or a “loan blitz” appointment, call 541-3024.
* The Urban Garden Center observes the Filipino centennial through July 29 with and educational garden of Filipino vegetables, herbs, shrubs and fruit trees. The garden center is at 955 Kamehameha Hwy. Call 453-6059.
* The Hawaii Women’s Rodeo Association presents a rodeo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 29 at Barbers Point Stables Arena,featuring all ages - male and female - competing in barrel racing, pole bending and more. Call Sandy at 780-5091 or 526-1708.
* Final weekend of the Hawaii State Farm Fair is July 28-30 on the Kapolei fairgrounds, located at the corner of Farrington Highway and Fort Barrett Road. Hours are 6 p.m. to midnight July 28, and noon to midnight July 29 and 30. Call 848-2074.
* State Reps. Lyla Berg and Roy Takumi brief the public at 10 a.m. July 29 on 2006 legislation affection early childhood education. The meeting will be at Seagull School at Kapolei,531 Farrington Hwy.Call 531-5502.
* The Nature Conservancy leads an interpretive hike from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 5 along the Palikea Trail in the Honouliuli Preserve. Fee is $10. Call 587-6220.
* Kapolei Rotary Club holds a collection drive for school supplies from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 29 in the Kapolei High School teachers lounge. The items will go to under-privileged students in West Oahu elementary schools. Call 674-2500.
* The city seeks residents’ comments on expansion of the Waimanalo Gulch landfill in a meeting set for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at Kapolei Hale. Call 539-3473.
