AVCO Saves Green With Solar

The Audio Visual Company (AVCO) is gaining ground in Aiea - literally,having recently completed an 18,000-square-foot build-out to its existing location.
The expansion includes a 352-panel solar system designed and installed by Distributed Energy Partners.
The solar panels went live Jan. 8 and in less than five months have saved the company 5,170 gallons of gas, prevented 45 tons of CO2 from releasing into the atmosphere and saved 370 trees.
AVCO president Thomas Lee said the system should pay for itself in three to four years.
“And if oil prices go up, we will save even more,” he added, noting that he expects to save about $48,000 annually with the new system.
Over its lifetime, the photovoltaic system is expected to prevent nearly 7.3 million pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere, offset more than 118,000 barrels of oil that would otherwise be burned to make electricity, and counteract nearly 30,000 pounds of SOx and 13,000 pounds of NOx (sulfur and nitrogen oxides). That’s the equivalent of not driving for more than 6.6 million miles in a car and saving 39 acres of forest.
“We provide the very best in integrated audio-visual systems to commercial clients, so I understand the value of new technology,” Lee said, “and solar just makes sense.”
In addition, the build-out will serve as a large class-room/teaching area equipped with the latest A/V options, service department and executive offices for those interested in video conferencing or training.
