Essay Contest Lets Mom Know She’s No. 1

Waipio Shopping Center wants keiki to let Mom know why she’s so special in its 12th annual Mother’s Day Essay Contest.

Kanoelani Elementary School has received entry forms for all its students, and the public may pick up their own from all shopping center merchants and at Foodland’s customer service department.

Judging starts at 10 a.m. Friday. At stake are first-, second- and third-place cash prizes of $50, $30 and $20, respectively, to be awarded in three age categories: under 8 years old, 8-12 years and 13-18 years.

Special guest Wendy Calio of Disney’s The Imagination Movers will be on hand to help judge the essays. Winners will be mailed their prizes and have their names posted at Foodland.
