Golf Tourney Supports Diabetes Research

The American Diabetes Association invites golf enthusiasts from around Oahu to support its 16th annual “Driving Fore A Cure” Golf Tournament Thursday at Hawaii Prince Golf Course in Ewa Beach.

After a 10 a.m. sign-in, festivities begin at 11 with the popular Golf Ball Drop, at which point 2,000 golf balls will fall from the sky onto a designated hole for lucky prize giveaways from sponsors Vacations Hawaii, Best Buy, City Mill and Simply Organized.

Teams then get to play the course (which will be dotted by numerous comfort stations) and test their skills in a modified scramble format for hole-in-one prizes, including a trip for two to Las Vegas.

A reception dinner follows at 5 p.m. in the clubhouse, giving players and volunteers the chance to relax while raising awareness and funds for ADA.

Cost per three-person team is $525 and includes cart and green fees, door prizes, lunch, dinner and a goodie bag. Sponsorship opportunities also are available. All proceeds raised support the nonprofit’s mission to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by the disease.

“With more than 110,000 people living with diabetes in Hawaii, we all know someone living with diabetes and its complications,” said tournament co-chairwoman Dr. Laurie K.S. Tom. “Our efforts will help fund the ADA’s education, advocacy, prevention and information efforts throughout Hawaii and the Pacific Rim.”
