Head To LCC For Fair, Recycling Drive Nov. 6

Del.icio.usAloha Aina Earth Day comes to Leeward Community College from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 6 through a partnership of 20 recyclers and businesses that want to clean up the campus, divert waste from the landfill and earn cash for the college.
The collection drive takes place during LCC’s 20th annual Discovery Fair (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) which offers family activities, interactive educational exhibits, food and entertainment in Discovery Square.
Residents can bring all kinds of metal, paper, appliances and old bulky things to the school parking lot, as well as canned items for Hawaii Foodbank. Also welcome are unlimited computers, printers and scanners; HI-5 containers, corrugated cardboard, cell phones, printer cartridges, cooking oil, documents for shredding (8 to 11 a.m.), phone books and magazines, batteries and plastic bags.
Goodwill accepts usable clothing; Lions clubs will recycle eye glasses and hearing aids. People also may exchange incandescent light bulbs for two CFLs.
No tires, TV sets, paint, green waste, microwave overs, motor oil, hazardous fluids or gas tanks will be accepted. For curbside pick up or free towing of cars, call Rene Mansho at 306-1876.
The drive is coordinated by Mansho of Schnitzer Steel, a Campbell Industrial Park metal recycler that, with others, will give its cash proceeds from recycled waste to the school. Cosponsoring the drive is Servco Pacific.
Earth Day partners on site will be Schnitzer Steel, Alliance Trucking, Blue Planet Foundation, Family Towing, Environmental Manufacturing, Goodwill Industries, Hagadone Printing, Hawaii Lions District 50, state and city environmental staffs, RokZ Productions, Honolulu Recovery Systems, Interstate Battery Systems of Hawaii, Intrade Corp., Menehune Water, Pacific Biodiesel, Pacific Corporate Solutions, Paradise Lua Inc., Penske Truck Rental, Refrigerant Recycling Inc. and T&N Computer Recycling Services.
