HECO Seeking Energy Ideas For Kahe Valley

Del.icio.usAttention, developers with clean-energy ideas: Hawaiian Electric Co. wants your proposals by Oct. 29 for a possible fit with its Kahe Generating Station.
The utility company’s 455-acre Kahe Valley parcel in Leeward Oahu is zoned I-2 (Intensive Industrial), and HECO wants to include projects that would fit into a master plan for the area. Currently, the generating station sits on 50 acres of the site and generates about half of the utility-owned power capacity on Oahu. Much of the remainder of the valley is steeply sloped and considered undevelopable.
According to vice president for energy resources Scott Seu, HECO is requesting input on clean energy goals “so we can allocate space to projects that best help meet these goals and are compatible with the surrounding community, cultural sites, and operations of the Kahe Generating Station.”
