HMA Meeting Offers Mighty Mo Sleepover

The Hawaii Museums Association conducts its 2010 conference and annual meeting from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Pearl Harbor.

The one-day program kicks off at the USS Arizona Memorial led by park historian Daniel Martinez, who will lead a behind-the-scenes tour of the new $58 million museum and visitor center project.

Kippen De Alba Chu, HMA board vice president and executive director of Iolani Palace, will discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by two conferences coming to Honolulu at the Ford Island Conference Center.

Following lunch and the annual HMA meeting, Battleship Missouri Memorial’s vice president of development Sarah Tenney will discuss “Tactics and Tools to Insure Fundraising Success for Hawaii’s Museums and Heritage Organizations.” Tenney was instrumental in the vessel’s recent $18 million renovation.

Rounding out the day’s agenda is a visit to the Pacific Aviation Museum and its new facilities, followed by a boat tour of historical Pearl Harbor sites and memorials.

“This coming conference and meeting promises to be pivotal and thought-provoking,” said HMA board president Peter Van Dyke. “I strongly encourage our community to attend.”
