A $25,000 grant from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs will help a local educational agency recruit more Native Hawaiian teachers from Kapolei and the Leeward coast.
“With the critical shortage of licensed teachers on the Waianae coast and with a growing Native Hawaiian population in Kapolei, our Kukuluao and Ka Lama Education Academy is helping to provide stability in the area, thereby leading to higher rates of school success,“said Kanoe Naone.
Naone is CEO of the Institute for Native Pacific Education and Culture (INPEACE),which successfully applied for the OHA grant. INPEACE now can expand its academy, which is a recruitment, support and retention program for future teachers of grades K-12. For details, go to http://www.inpeace-hawaii.org.
