Campbell High School principal Gail Awakuni and retired HSTA executive director Joan Husted may be in the hot seat as “respondents” at 6 p.m. Feb. 23 in UH law school’s Moot Courtroom.
Featured speaker at the College of Education’s annual Shiro Amioka Lecture is law professor Randall Roth, who will critique Hawaii’s public school system - followed by Awakuni and Husted critiquing Roth’s critique.
A veteran educator in the DOE, Awakuni also was Hawaii’s first school administrator to win the National High School Principal of the Year award in 2005 for her tireless and successful effort to turn things around at Campbell.
Roth, co-author of the award-winning Bishop Estate expose Broken Trust, has been honored often for his work at the law school and in government service.
The free public lecture includes a light reception following the program.
