A benefit golf tournament that’s played in kilts was the obvious choice for Saint Andrew Society of Hawaii, since golf was invented in Scotland and often played in the tartan cloth the St. Andrews course.
The nonprofit organization will have its fourth annual Blue Shamrock Kilted Classic Golf Tournament Aug. 8 at Pearl Country Club. Entry fee is $150 for single players, add $600 for teams of four.
Sponsorship packages also are available, and the deadline to register is July 31.
“We just knew we had to embrace this tradition on the Islands,” said Cesci Perez de Wang, Saint Andrew Society convener. “One does not need to be a member or from a Celtic nation to play in the tournament. And we have plenty of loaner kilts available.”
Registration includes continental breakfast, green fees, a golf cart, lunch, cocktails, dinner and a gift bag. Also up for grabs is a hole-in-one prize: A week-long golf getaway for two in Scotland.
Proceeds from the tour-ney will help Saint Andrew Society of Hawaii continue to fund cultural and educational Celtic activities.
