Nationally lauded dance troupe In Mixed Company brings its multimedia social commentary to Leeward Community College for one show at 8 p.m. Jan. 23 in the college theater.

Artistic director Maura Donohue and dancers Aretha Aoki, Jessica Colotti and Brian Nishii will perform two works heralded for their use of vibrant imagery and vigorous dance. The centerpiece is Rip It Open, which Donohue said is “inspired by personal experience and the go-go dancing, karate chopping chicks of Faster Pussycat Kill! Kill!” and “examines the intimate acts of destruction that permeate our lives.”

The evening also will include the world premiere of a short piece called Tempest Fugit, a dance about the evolution of a woman’s body over time.

“The dance oscillates between wrenching, tangled shapes and continuous, lyrical motion sequences set to the sound of phasing, overlapped ticking time-keepers,” Donohue said.

“We are really excited to have this NYC-based group performing here,” said LCC Theatre manager Joe Patti. “The group is edgy, brash, sometimes irreverent, but often quite funny.”

Tickets cost $25 adults, $21 students, seniors and military. Those under 12 can see the show for $15, but the show does deal with mature content, and parental discretion is strongly advised. For tickets and more information, call the LCC box office at 455-0385, the EticketHawaii hotline at 483-7123, or visit www.lcctheatre.hawaii.edu.

In Mixed Company will conduct a free Dance Master Class at 2 p.m. Jan. 22 in the Leeward Theatre Dance Studios, and reservations are recommended. Call 455-0385.
