Library Has Programs, Book Sale

Kapolei Library celebrates its sixth anniversary with a special gift for its loyal patrons - a series of free programs suitable for all ages Aug. 25-28.

They are:

* Aug. 25, 6 p.m - Local food writer Wanda Adams provides the answers to pressing questions such as “Why do we eat such odd things like Saloon Pilot crackers and Spam?” and “Where did the plate lunch come from?” in her presentation What I Learned from Writing The Island Plate.

* Aug. 26-27, 2-5 p.m.; and Aug. 28, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. - Teens are invited to design and create beaded bookmarks in Beaded Bookmark Craft for Teens. All materials will be provided.

* Aug. 28, at 10:30 a.m. - Balloon Monsoon creates a variety of balloon sculptures for keiki, from animals to cartoon characters.

The Friends of the Library, Kapolei also will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 28 on the library lawn. All sales proceeds benefit the library by supporting future programs and special projects.

In addition, all programs and events celebrating the library’s anniversary were made possible through funding provided by the Friends.

Kapolei Library opened on Aug. 16, 2004, as the 51st branch of the Hawaii State Public Library System. The $6.9 million, two-story building is the second largest in the state and spans 35,000 square feet of floor space.
