Mail-in Ballots Due Dec. 29

Del.icio.usCity Clerk Bernice Mau announced last week that as of Dec. 11, all registered voters living within the boundaries of Council District 1 - Ewa, Ewa Beach, Honouliuli, West Loch, Kapolei, Kalaeloa/Barbers Point, Honokai Hale, Nanakuli Gardens, Ko Olina, Nanakuli, Maili, Waianae, Makaha, Keaau and Makua - should have started receiving their voter-ballot packets in the mail.
Ballots must be returned no later than 6 p.m. Dec. 29 in the envelopes provided. Those received afterward will not be counted.
Any voters who must use an accessible voting machine may visit Kapolei Hale or Honolulu Hale between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m until Dec. 27, excluding Sundays, holidays and furloughs. Walk-in voting also will be open on Saturdays during this period.
Absentee polling places will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Christmas day (Dec. 25) and will feature direct-recording electronic voting machines only.
Ballots also may be dropped off at these sites during the above-mentioned hours of operation.
This election is being held to replace City Councilmember Todd Apo, who resigned last month to work as director of public affairs for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.
Apo had served as council chairman since 2008.
