Construction will soon begin on the new Ocean Pointe Fire Station in Ewa Beach.
Last month the city awarded a contract to 57 Builders Ltd. to construct the 12,000-square-foot fire station on more than an acre of land donated by development company Haseko.
The new station will sit next to Seagull School and across from Keoneula Elementary, and will be the first city project to achieve a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
“This location will help us maintain our response time standards in the Ewa community and provide a 21st century, modern fire station,” said fire chief Ken Silva.
Estimated at $4.6 million, the new building will include two fire apparatus bays, office space, dormitories, a kitchen, dining room, exercise room and support facilities for a five-firefighter engine company, plus parking and landscaping. Designs also allow for a second fire company if needed in the future.
In addition, there are plans to construct a multilevel training tower to replace the iconic, but obsolete, hose towers of fire stations from long ago.
The Ocean Pointe station will replace the old Ewa Fire Station across from Ewa Beach Community Park. Plans are to use the building for other fire department operational needs once it is vacated. If HFD determines the site is no longer needed, it will be returned to the city.
