Verizon Wireless recently opened its latest “evolution” communications store in Kapolei, but that’s not what all the buzz is about.
The new store, located at 4450 Kapolei Pkwy., Building C, is one of the first in the nation to seek LEED certification from the United States Green Building Council.
The LEED Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.
* Kahi Mohala Behavioral Health recently received a $15,000 donation from G.N.
Wilcox Trust as well as $15,000 from McInerny Foundation in support of the Ewa Beach hospital’s campaign to raise much-needed funds for Phase II of the renovation and expansion of the its Lokelani Child & Adolescent Unit.
The renovation, which will improve safety and environmental quality in the common areas of the child and teen inpatient unit, has been approved for a $50,000 Matching Challenge Grant from Sutter Health, on the condition that Kahi Mohala raises $50,000 from individuals, foundations and businesses in the local community. Kahi Mohala’s board of trustees has pledged $19,250 to date, with 100 percent board participation.
Both G.N. Wilcox Trust and the McInerny Foundation (trustees with Bank of Hawaii) played a key role in funding Phase I of the Lokelani renovation in 2007. That campaign raised $90,000 from Kahi Mohala’s board of trustees, Atherton Family Foundation, First Hawaiian Bank Foundation, James Campbell Co. LLC (then James Campbell Estate), Friends of Hawaii Charities and Seto Foundation.
