Motorists in the Ewa area, be advised: The intersection at Kapolei Parkway and Kolowaka Drive was changed March 19 from a two-way stop to a four-way stop control.

In place will be warning signs and devices designed to reinforce driver awareness that all vehicles must come to a complete stop before proceeding through the intersection. Previously, only cars traveling on Kolowaka Drive were required to stop.

The four-way stop is an interim measure for a traffic signal that will be installed at the intersection within the next two to three months. The signal is being put in by Gentry Homes as part of a zoning requirement.

The intersection change was triggered by the recent opening of Kualaka’i Parkway (formerly North-South Road) and the connection of Kapolei Parkway between Renton Road and Kualaka’i Parkway, which led to continuous routes between Papipi Road in Ewa Beach to the H-1 Freeway and to Fort Barrette Road in Kapolei.

* Waipahu eateries Poke Stop and Highway Inn may be among the restaurants featured on the popular Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives next month.

Host Guy Fieri visited Oahu last October to produce segments for the filmed-in-Hawaii episode, but a broadcast date had not been announced. In addition to Poke Stop and Highway Inn, Fieri visited Nico’s at Pier 38, Hank’s Haute Dogs in Kakaako and Rainbow Drive-In near Waikiki. Producers, however, are still keeping mum on which restaurants will be shown.

* Hawaii DeBartolo, LLC has selected Nordic PCL as the general contractor for Phase I of Ka Makana Ali’i, a 1.5-million-square-foot, mixed-use shopping center in Kapolei.

Located at the intersection of Kapolei Parkway and Kualaka’i Parkway, the neighborhood convenience center will house retail stores, hotels, office buildings and family entertainment features. Land for the project is being leased from the state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands. Construction is expected to start in 12 to 18 months.
