The city will conduct nighttime soil sampling work from East Kapolei to Waipahu beginning May 25 for its Honolulu Rail Transit Project.

The soil sampling is part of preliminary design work for the first portion of the rail route, which runs 6.5 miles between East Kapolei to Pearl City.

“These tests will help us with preliminary design work,” explained DOT services director Wayne Y. Yoshioka.“Testing the soil stability along the route will help us refine the design and location of concrete pillars that will support the elevated guideway.”

Work in residential areas will be accomplished at night primarily along the Farrington Highway median between Waipahu High School and Fort Weaver Road and will run from Thursday (May 27) until early September.

Kiewet Pacific, which will design and construct the first segment of the route, was authorized by the city to conduct the testing.

* Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties has opened its first satellite office in Kunia Shopping Center. The office will be managed by the Leeward Office leadership team and will be furnished with workstations, phones, printers, a conference room, video monitor and more to better serve CBP clients in West Oahu.

“We recognize that there is a large population (in West Oahu) and wish to provide more convenience to our agents and valued customers residing on the west side of the island,” said president Chason Ishii.
