Del.icio.usKiewit Infrastructure West Co. began conducting shaft testing along Farrington Highway in East Kapolei Sept. 20 and will continue into Waipahu as part of the preliminary engineering work for the Honolulu Rail Transit Project. The company was selected by the city to design and construct the first segment of the rail route.
Motorists are advised to anticipate possible traffic delays or take alternate routes between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., when lane closures are expected. Traffic-control signals and special duty police officers will direct traffic in affected areas. For updates, call 566-2299 or go to honolulu-transit.org.
There are eight shaft testing locations along or adjacent to Farrington Highway. Work at each location is scheduled to take approximately six weeks. All work is slated for completion by January 2011.
Soil testing for the project will continue along Farrington Highway during this time. Both the shaft and soil testing are needed to provide important data that will be used in the design of the first 6.5-mile stretch of guideway for the rail transit route between East Kapolei and Pearl City.

Spread out over a five-year period, the donation has helped provide financial support to qualified families and allowed students from diverse cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds to enroll at the Kapolei-based college prep school.
IPA was founded in 2004 and graduated its first class of 45 seniors this past May.
