Del.icio.usPali Momi Medical Center, along with its sister nonprofits Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Kauai and Straub Clinic and Hospital in Honolulu, were recognized in the July 27 edition of U.S. News and World Report‘s 2010 Best Hospitals for winning the Coronary Artery Disease Gold Award.
Presented by the American Heart Association, this prestigious award is given to hospitals that have met the highest level of standards for the treatment of coronary artery disease.
Additionally, Pali Momi earned the Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award from AHA for its excellence in the treatment of patients with heart failure. This award is given to hospitals that achieve 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure Performance Achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals and have achieved 75 percent or higher compliance with four out of nine Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure Quality Measures to improve quality of patient care and outcomes.
The West Oahu medical center is the first hospital in the state to earn this award.
Straub and Wilcox also received the AHA Silver Achievement Award for Heart Failure, and Straub earned the AHA/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines Stroke Silver Performance Achievement Award, recognizing the hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care.
* The city recently received a $632,000 federal grant to help pay for improvements made at Geiger Community Park that were completed in early 2009 and cost a total of $1.3 million.
Improvements to the Ewa park included two ball fields with dugouts and fencing, two basketball courts, one tennis court, one volleyball court, concrete walkways and curbs, a drinking fountain, irrigation and landscaping, and various electrical upgrades.
The grant is a reimbursement from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which is provided by the U.S. Department of the Interior through the National Park Service and administered by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.
