New Life For Old Phone Books

Del.icio.usThe new year means new phone books for Oahu homes, so what to do with the old ones? Hawaiian Telcom Yellow Pages challenges Oahu residents to “Think Yellow, Go Green” with its directory recycling program.
“We were so impressed by the 90 tons of recycled directories last year,” stated Neila Visitacion, field marketing manager for HYP Media, publisher of Hawaiian Telcom Yellow Pages. “We want to set the bar higher and we know Oahu residents can step up to make this year an even greater success.”
Every weekend through Feb. 14, volunteers from the Lokahi Giving Project will be collecting outdated Hawaiian Telcom Yellow Pages directories as well as those from other publishers at Waikele Premium Outlets. The container is located to the left of the outlet’s entrance, behind Perfumania.
At the close of the program, the recycled directories will be transported to local recycling plant Island Shell LLC. The directories will then be converted into environmentally safe products including materials for vehicle oil change kits, mulch and wall insulation products.
