Mention Beauty and the Beast or Cats to theatre buffs and the long-running Broadway hits will conjure up images of elaborate costumes, legendary tunes and inspiring performances.
Later this year, fans also will be able to add “valuable fundraiser” to the list of achievements associated with the famed productions.
Both shows will be at the Blaisdell Concert Hall later this year, and 50 cents from every ticket sold will go to the Broadway in Hawaii Education Fund, which will provide money to art programs at local schools and nonprofit organizations.
The Performing Arts Center of Kapolei is one of six Oahu-based performing arts programs that will receive endowments from the newly-created fund.
Beauty and the Beast runs from Sept. 21 to Oct. 3 with tickets costing $37-$67. Cats will run for one week only, Dec. 28-Jan. 2, and tickets cost $35-$70.
“Given the demand we’ve seen for top-quality family shows like these, we expect tickets to go fast,” said the city’s director of enterprise services, Sidney Quintal.
Both shows are offering opening-night discounts to go along with special pricing for seniors and children.
Tickets are on sale at the Blaisdell box office, Walmart and Sports Gear at Windward Mall.
