Pearl City High School sponsors an Aloha Aina Earth Day recycling drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, adding a canned food drive for Hawaii Foodbank and accepting “an unlimited number” of residential and commercial computers.
Residents also can bring all kinds of metal, appliances, HI-5 containers, cooking oil, cell phones, printer cartridges, phone books, cardboard egg cartons and corrugated boxes, plastic bags, CDs and DVDs, green waste, magazines, batteries and more. Goodwill and Lions Clubs will make use of any donated clothing, household items, hearing aids and eyeglasses. Donors also may exchange old light bulbs for two CFLs per person.
For curbside pickup, call Kirk Bailey at 778-9985; for towing of unwanted cars, call Rene Mansho of Schnitzer Steel at 306-1876.
The school band and the Pearl City Lions will coordinate the drive, and cash proceeds from recyclers will go to the high school.
Also involved are a dozen local businesses and organizations.
A mini-event is planned for Sept. 26 at Kapolei Middle School.
