Pearl Opens With Spring Menu

The Pearl restaurant at Leeward Community College recently announced its spring 2010 menu, which is offered from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays now through April 23.
Chef instructor Ian Riseley and his kitchen of 120 Contemporary Cuisines students cook up an array of dishes that changes every two weeks. On the menu Jan. 27-29 are appetizers of warm Thai beef salad with cucumbers and mint ($4.95), or ahi and opah Napoleon with spicy citrus kim chee ($5.95). The main course options are shrimp and scallop fettuccine with creamy vine-ripe tomato sauce and Reggiano Parmesan ($15.95); escalope of pork with pine nut and caper brown butter and sweet corn polenta ($14.95); or ballotine of chicken with red wine sauce and Hamakua mushrooms ($13.95). For the sweet tooth,there is dried raspberry creme brulee ($4.95) or profiteroles stuffed with macadamia nut ice cream and warm chocolate sauce ($4.95).
The next rotation starts the week of Feb. 3. For reservations, call 455-0475.
Also coming up is a Valentine’s Day Scholarship Brunch with entertainment by Kumu Hula Vicky Holt Takamine and Halau Pua Alii Ilima. Food will be served from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the LCC Uluwehi Cafe and Lion Courtyard.
“We coordinate this with all of our feeder high schools,” said Tommylynn Benavente, program coordinator for LCC Culinary Arts Program. “They are coming here and working with our students and faculty to put on the brunch. The money raised from this goes back to the high school students for scholarships.”
Tickets are $14 for adults pre-sale, $17 at the door. Children age 5 to 10 eat for $7. Other special dates are The Pearl Spring Buffet Feb. 17-19 and April 21-23; the Chef Showcase Dinner at 6 p.m. April 16; and the Lulu Leeward Culinary Arts Gala on May 8 to honor Chef Philippe Padovani.
