Pearl Harbor Shipyard pipefitter apprentice Travis Mickey of Pearl City was recently awarded the George S.B. Walters Shipyard Service Award from the Honolulu Council of the Navy League at the Sea Service Awards luncheon.

Mickey is among about 40 outstanding representatives from Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard commands in Hawaii so honored. Along with the honor, which is specially designed for a civilian shipyard employee who has contributed in maintaining the Navy’s ships, he also received a $1,000 cash prize.

Mickey was nominated by Pipe Shop superintendent Michael Raymond, who recognized Mickey’s contributions as president of the Pearl Harbor Apprentice Association. He also noted Mickey’s involvement with association members in highway cleanups, Toys for Tots and food drives.

“He understands that his generation has to get more involved in shipyard business in order for us to improve,” said Raymond.

“He is growing our future workforce, making them better citizens and finding their place in society. He shows true dedication to the shipyard.”
