The state Legacy Land Conservation Fund seeks government and nonprofit applicants for a share of up to $4 million, which will be used to buy, conserve and protect land in the Islands in 2010-2011.

Deadline is Sept. 16 to submit proposals, which may include watersheds, coastal and hunting areas, beaches, ocean access, habitat, cultural and historic sites, parks, natural areas, agricultural production, open space and scenic resources.

The fund represents 10 percent of the state’s land conveyance tax collected each year. For more information, call Molly Schmidt at 586-0921 or visit hawaii.gov/dlnr/dofaw.llcp.

In fiscal year 2009, for example, the fund awarded nearly $1 million to the state DLNR for acquisition of 3,582 acres in Honouliuli Preserve near Makakilo.
