Safeway Gives Free Flu Shots

Del.icio.usSafeway pharmacies will administer a high-dose flu vaccine for adults age 65 and older on a walk-in basis this month and next, while other Safeway stores will have vaccine clinics, including the Aiea and Kapolei supermarkets.
Medicare Part B participants will receive the shots for free.
. “We have made the process of getting a flu vaccine affordable and convenient,” said Gary Rocheleau, Safeway’s senior vice president of pharmacy. “Individuals have no reason to go unprotected this flu season nor should businesses risk lost productivity due to a sick work force.”
The Aiea Safeway clinic is open from 3 to 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at 98-1277 Kaahumanu St., and the Kapolei clinic is open from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at 590 Farrington Hwy.
This year’s vaccine will protect against the H1N1 virus and two other influenza viruses. Called Fluzone High Dose, the new vaccine has the same components as regular-strength flu vaccine, but “provides a superior immune response in people 65 years of age and older,” according to Safeway officials.
