Del.icio.usKatherine Sakado of Makakilo has been awarded the first Hawaii Hastings Scholarship from the University of California Hastings College of Law.
The $5,000 scholarship was established by members of the Hawaii Hastings alumni community to continue its longstanding connection with UC Hastings. Sakado, a graduate of Mid-Pacific Institute and UH Manoa, was selected from an array of student-candidates based on her academic excellence, professional aspirations and ties with Hawaii.
“With this scholarship in mind, I hope to learn the most I can from UC Hastings’ truly inspiring legal community and apply what I learn when I return home to Hawaii,” said Sakado, who will graduate from the law school in 2013.
“This scholarship is a win-win for Hastings and for Hawaii,” added Chris Lau, co-chairman of the scholarship committee. “I and my fellow alumni on the island hope and believe that students from Hawaii will return here to give back - both as people and as professionals - to the community that helped them reach their goal of achieving a legal education.”
UC Hastings assistant dean of admissions Greg Canada will make an appearance at the law firm of Cades Schutte from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 30 to answer questions and share insight with prospective law students and their parents. Canada also will visit other Oahu colleges later this year, including LCC, UH West Oahu, UH Manoa, BYUH and HPU.
Misti Pali of Aiea is one of two winners chosen to attend the premiere of ONE VOICE, a documentary about Kamehameha Schools student song leaders and their journey through the annual Song Contest. As part of her prize, Pali won two roundtrip tickets to San Diego, where she will attend the screening of the film later this month at the San Diego Asian Film Festival.
Jeremy Sosner has returned to Ko Olina Resort & Marina as vice president of resort branding and marketing. He brings with him 25 years of hospitality management experience.
In this position, the Kailua resident will work collaboratively with resort vice president Mike Nelson in contributing to the development of resort-wide commercial operations, branding and marketing, strategic planning, personnel training and development, cultural activities and public relations, corporate relations within the visitor industry, and overseeing film, media and printed material operations.
For the past 10 years, Sosner has been at the helm of resort marketing for Hualalei Resort on the Big Island. He previously worked as director of sales and marketing for the Ihilani Resort & Spa from 1995-98, and has served in an executive capacity at The Mauna Kea Resort; The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, Maui and the Hyatt Regency Maui, Kaanapali Beach, Maui.
