Del.icio.us* Army National Guard Pvt. Taylor N. Tauala, a 2009 graduate of Aiea High School, has graduated from the Basic Field Artillery Cannon Crewmember Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Tauala is the son of Iwalani and Marvis Tauala of Aiea.
* Air Force Airman 1st Class Bryan B. Echalas, a 2008 graduate of Aiea High School, has graduated “with distincition” from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Willie and Corazon Echalas of Aiea.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.
* Hawaii State Federal Credit Union recently awarded a total of $23,546 to 51 Hawaii teachers who applied for the Investing in Education Grant Program, which provides funds to be used for classroom supplies and equipment. Among the awardees is thirdgrade teacher Kristine Nakamura of Ewa Elementary School. Nakamura received a $500 grant, which she will use to support the class art program.
* Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties recently announced that Searle Chong of Pearl City has joined the firm’s Leeward office. Prior to joining CBP, Chong owned his own business specializing in custom cabinetry and remodeling.
* Glenn Nishihara of Pearlridge also has joined CBP’s Leeward office as vice president and Realtor.
Nishihara has been working in the real estate industry since 1991, and has earned numerous awards for his work. Prior to joining CBP, Nishihara owned a real estate company with his wife, Trudy.
* Ko Olina resident Richard DeGarmo recently joined The Gas Company as director of renewable energy and capital projects. DeGarmo is responsible for planning and managing the company’s large-scale renewable energy and capital projects.
He brings 30 years of experience in the industry to the new position. He has worked to develop biofuel and biomass processing and production plants and recently completed two plants on the Mainland.
* Central Pacific Bank has appointed Patti Cristobal, a Kapolei resident, to vice president and community banking sales manager, making her responsible for the development and implementation of effective strategies and tactics for product sales and services distributed through community banking. Cristobal has more than 18 years of banking experience and previously worked at American Savings Bank as director of consumer operations.
