The Mamoru and Aiko Takitani Foundation has presented $96,000 in 2010 scholarships to 60 public and private high school seniors across the state, including seven outstanding students from West Oahu schools.
Established by the makers of Hawaiian Host chocolates, the scholarship fund has awarded $1.5 million in college grants since 1993 to Hawaii students based on academic achievement, community service and financial need.
Area recipients include Robert Firme of Campbell High ($3,000) and Erin Lau of Aiea High, Nicole Talion of Kapolei High, Tabitha Ayala of Nanakuli High and Intermediate, Taro Kobayashi of Pearl City High, Genardine Arizala of Waipahu High and Jonathan Davis of Island Pacific Academy (all $1,000 grants).
Honorees were treated to a luncheon May 8 at Waialae Country Club with master of ceremonies Michael W. Perry and a keynote address from city Prosecuting Attorney Peter Carlisle.
