A full field of golfers turned up July 27 at Pearl Country Club to play in the fifth annual Aloha Shriners Golf Tournament. Money raised goes to Aloha Shriners Temple and its work with Shriners Hospital for Children. “I’ve seen so many miracles in my 10 years with Shriners,” said tourney PR chair, Chuck Comeau, referring to the free medical care the hospital provides for its young patients. “Shriners helps throughout the South Pacific and will even pay transportation costs to get kids (the care they need.” Shriners Hospital for Children Honolulu broke ground Aug. 7 for a state-of-the-art, $73 million facility, due for completion in 2010. Plans for next year’s tourney are already under way and will benefit the hospital’s capital campaign fund. Shriner’s Honolulu hospital operates on 600 patients a year and has provided free orthopedic care to more than 25,000 of Hawaii’s youths.
